THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FILLED.
This 3-hour workshop is an introduction to the Processing toolkit for arts programming. It's similar to the other introductory Processing workshops offered at this conference -- but it assumes that you might also be teaching as well as learning the toolkit. It therefore includes some additional pointers about curricula; some suggestions for exciting assignments; and some experience-tested tips for explaining basic programming concepts to others.
Although Processing has received lots of buzz in the professional design and arts communities, one of its most profound impacts has been within the digital arts and computer science classrooms. Processing is being taught at institutions around the world, including both the Art and Computer Science departments at Carnegie Mellon! Some aspects of the language and environment that make it so pedagogically effective are its quick-start capabilities; its extendability, through libraries and tools; and its connection to Java. In this workshop, world-renowned educator Ira Greenberg will draw on his experience teaching/presenting Processing to a wide range of populations – from first year art students to computer science faculty and everyone in-between. All are welcome/encouraged to attend.
Level: Introductory -- but primarily intended for Educators.
